Ok. I'm gonna explain from the history I've been told. There are acouple different versions. But here it is. LORD refers to YHWH the tetragrammaton or the sacred name of the father. There are 2 versions of the story that I've heard. One is that they were scared to pronounce the sacred name and two is they couldn't pronounce it so the Hebrews instead of saying YHWH our God they began to call him Adonai our God.Basically use of the sacred name ceased.
"Adonai" is a title that means "lord, master". YHWH is a name for the father. So when they translated the OT to greek instead of calling God by the sacred name they rather used a title and called him Adonai which in greek translates to kyrios.
So to some people it appears that"kyrios" translates to the sacred name "YHWH" or "Jehovah" and this is why they think "Lord" and "God" are the same thing. Without anunderstanding of the history of the switch in Hebrew by the hebrews from calling the almighty one "YHWH" to calling him "Adonai" we would think that "kyrios" translates from greek to "YHWH" in hebrew. But "kyrios" actually only translates to Adonai.
That's what I've seen in my research. I'm not the best at explaining it and I could be wrong in my explanation. But "kyrios" translates to "Adonai" not to "YHWH" the sacred name. And "adonai" is a title for "lord" or "master" and that's why people likeAbraham are called "adonai" or "kyrios". Same with Jesus. It's not calling Jesus YHWH when the New Testament refers to him as "Lord". It's calling him "Adonai" which means "Lord" or "teacher" or "master". Further comments and insight on this subject are definitely welcome.

Well Jack, it's not difficult if we understand the difference between "LORD" and "Lord". LORD is referring to the name Jehovah, but when translated to greek they translated it from Adonai. So using the title "LORD" in place of the sacred name is nothing sinful, but it can be confusing if we refuse to differentiate "LORD" from "Lord" in the NT. Also LORD is not a name but a title which translates to "Adonai" however it is capitalized to let us know that it is referring to the sacred name. Some people think that "Lord" in the NT is sometimes translated from the sacred name. But actually it is always translated from the title "adonai" the hebrew for "Lord" or "master". It was likely that many of the verses in the NT were translated from the greek OT the septuigent. Most of the copies don't use the sacred name in the septuigent, however there are a few copies of them that do. Jack, this is something that takes study to show ourselves approved unto God. It is also an interesting subject that can be quite enlightening when properly understood.

David. No one has ever seen the Father other than Christ the Son of God not even angels or Satan. Jesus told us that the father has been revealed by Him as the Son of God. The Father can not deal or ever have contact wit us outside the mediation of the Son of God. He the Son of God is the only person who is able to deal with man and can us made right with the Father if he has dealt with us and has made us perfect like he was perfect. So Father was never part of the active plan of Salvation in a active way This has been the work of our creator The Son of God. Did is reinstated in the New Testament By Jesus Christ who was before Jehovah -the Son of God. and will come again as Jehovah the Son of God. Jack.

Jack,
Angels behold his face in heaven.
Mat 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
Only us who have sin cannot look upon the face of the fatehr. However we will see him face to face.
Rev 22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
That refers to the father, who's name will be on their foreheads Revelation 14:1.
Jack,
Jehovah is the father, not the son. There is no such thing as Jehovah the son of God. Though Jehovah's name is in him and his name is "Jehovahs salvation" Christ is not Jehovah.

David.by who was salvation offered in old testament time was it the Father or the Son of God.It was the Son of God by who wecould salvation not by the Father. When Jesuswas on earth could we receive salvation by HisFather no only through JesusChrist not by JesusChrist. What is the reason? In this the Father could do nothing without the mediation of HisSon. The father offered salvation through his son.
Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Jehovah God did all things through his son Jesus the son of Jehovah. The plan of salvation was devised between the father and the son. Long before sin entered the world the father and son understood the possibility of sin and a plan was devised to eradicate sin from the universe should it arise.
The reason the father himself did not come is that he is "the only immortal". The reason the son of God could come is that he recieved his life from his father and was able to give it back.
The skins were a symbol of the son, God the father so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. The son was submissive to this plan. So we can conclude that the father gave these skins through his son Jesus Christ which signified the plan of salvation was put in place.

Jack, If you have a son, what is easier? To sacrifice yourself or your son? I believe it's harder to give up your son. And i'm not trying to take away anything from Jesus because he was willing to do anything for us, and he was willing to give as much as the father. However I think it was harder for the father to give his son then it was for Jesus to give himself.
That's my opinion. I would rather give myself than let my son go. Any good father would give himself first. The problem is that God is the only immortal one and only Jesus could give his life back and come and suffer the death of the cross making his soul a sacrifice for sin.

Hallo David, I am currently busy with some research on the name of God. It can rather get confusing, but I believe the spirit of truth helps to guide us. I think the reason for using the name Lord/God was to create an universal one "God", so we don't get to know our ONE and only true God. It seems like when the Bible was written that they had to create a name to accommodate all the names being used in pagan worship? Already in those years a 'false church' was being created. (not that I am saying the Bible is false, it has been intercepted by 'the false church'. (maybe you can give some input to put it in the right words). I think it is quite important to use our Elohim's (God's) name YHWH and His son's name Yashua. I've come to the conclusion that I would not like anybody out there using and misspelling my name as I was born with ONE name ONLY, our legends, heroes, president's all in history has ONE name only. I have found this site very helpfull http://assemblyoftrueisrael.com. The name Jehovah is what the Jews has been using. Kyrios is the name for a Greek god. IESOOS was translated to english Jesus but it gets scary when you do a little bit research and come upon a name ---- "The name of YAHshua has been replaced by the names of G-zeus (Jesus), and Ea-zeus meaning healing zeus (Iesus, and Iesous) which are pagan in origin."
"You should not use the name Ge-sus because the Ge means earth or soil in Greek, and the sus means swine or pig in Latin, so you are saying "earth pig".
"Jesus is a corrupted name derived from the Greek IESOUS. Ies, or iysh in Hebrew means man, while sus -soos means horse, so when you speak that name, you are referring to the Messiah as “man horse” or “man beast”."
"The name IESOUS or “hey-soos” means “hey horse”. Just look at this example: Ps.33:17, “An horse (Heb. hey-soos/Grk. Iesous/ Eng. Jesus) is a vain hope for safety; neither shall he deliver any by its great strength.”" qouted from site http://www.seekgod.ca/htwhatsinaname.htm. There is also the fact that the letter J was only discovered later. For me Isis sounds like Iesoos?? Enjoy the journey of truth!

Hi Elize,
I agree that there is nothing wrong with using the sacred names. However I won't go to the extreme where people who call Yahshua Jesus are breaking the law.
Why?
Well, firstly I believe that the bible is inspired. And I believe that his name is Jesus in the word of God, and faith comes by the word of God. The word of God calls Yahshua Jesus, and Yahweh God. So therefore for me to believe that word I am justified since it is him who inspired those words.
The devil likes to try to get the glory for those titles. But there is no need to give him that. Blessings, much love, David.

"Jehovah is the father, not the son. There is no such thing as Jehovah the son of God. Though Jehovah's name is in him and his name is "Jehovahs salvation" Christ is not Jehovah." What about Isa 9:6? "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful,, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." The Tetragrammaton comes from Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, I AM THAT I AM. That is the form when God says it. When people say it, it becomes "He is" which in Hebrew is Yahweh. Jehovah is a strange hybrid word. It came about because early Christian scholars were unaware that the pointing on YHWH was a reminder to say Adonai, not vowelling for the name. The main occurrence of the Tetragrammaton in the New Testament is in Yashua. This means Yahweh saves. It is a shortened form; Yah saves. I don't know Hebrew well enough to comment on the grammar of the shortened form. Aramaic pronunciation was Yesu. The Greek form required the addition of the s to be a masculine name. To transliterated it into Greek would be to make it a women's name. Interestingly enough to be Baptized in the name of Jesus is to be Baptized in both the name of the Father and the Son. To be Baptized by the Holy Spirit is another thing entirely. One must be very careful to avoid thinking like in Ps. 50:2 "thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee" God is invisible because there is nothing in His creation to which he can be compared. What we see is always in contrast to something else in creation. God transcends time and space so He is invisible. There is only one God so He cannot be compared to other deities. With this in mind, we should realize that we have a very limited understanding. Concepts such as Father and Son are metaphors. These names are the closest things in our experiences that shed a little light on the nature of God. Some but not all the characteristics of earthly fathers apply to God the Father.
Personality, Identity, or other such terms can be traps for us.

Hi Truth Hunter,
Isaiah 9:6 uses the title "elohim" not "Jehovah" though their are many places in the OT that refer to Christ as Jehovah, Jehovah is the father and Christ came in his fathers name.
You'll notice in Isaiah 9:6 it says "a son is given". God gave his son, God is the father, Christ is not the father, Christ is the son of the father.
When it says "I will make him a father" it is the father speaking about his son who he gave saying "I will make him a father". Let me show you another verse that clarifies and parralels Isaiah 9:6. Regarding Eliakim God the father said:
Isa 22:20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: Isa 22:21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. Isa 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
Notice that "Eliakim" was made a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. These children were given to him and he is a spiritual father, however he is not father God.
Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Now according to that verse the son is given children. So if the son has children then he is a father. But the children were given by "God". God gave them to Christ, therefore God is not Christ. So why does it say Christ was God. Well the word was God, then he was made flesh. This is not reference to his identity and who he is, but it's reference to his nature and WHAT he is. Christ was in the form of God, then he was made in the likeness of men. Notice it is referring to his form and nature, not his identity.
Have ye read in the scriptures how God called us gods unto whom the scriptures were given. Jesus said that, but this is not referring to our identity. It's reference to our nature. Angels are called elohim in the bible, but this again isn't reference to identity, but to their nature. Same with Jesus Christ, the word was God, the word was flesh. (John 1:1, 14). If we read verse 18 of John 1 we see that "no man has seen God at any time". And then it says "the only begotten son has declared him" or made him known.
John 6 says no man has seen the father. So God is the father alone.
This passage seems to suggest a trinity to some, but with careful scrutiny we see it is not. Nowhere in scripture is the title God used to refer to the father son and holy spirit in a single instance.
